Alloy Steel Castings

What is Alloy Steel?

There are other alloying elements in the alloy steel besides Iron and Carbon. Based on different element added into steel and appropriate processing technology, alloy steel parts can get high strength, high ductility, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, low temperature resistance, high temperature resistance and non-magnetic properties…

Alloy steel can be divided into structural alloy steel and special alloy steel.

Structural alloy steel: It’s low and medium alloy cast steel, mainly used to make general mechanical structure parts.

Special alloy steel: mainly high alloy cast steel, such as wear-resistant cast steel, stainless acid resistant cast steel, heat-resistant cast steel, cast alloy tool steel, etc.

The Role of Various Metal Elements in Alloy Steel

Chromium: Chromium can increase the hardenability and secondary hardening of steel, improve the hardness and wear resistance of carbon steel without embrittlement. When the content is more than 12%, the steel has high temperature oxidation resistance and oxidation corrosion resistance, and also increase the thermal strength of the steel. Chromium is the main alloy element of stainless steel acid resistant steel and heat-resistant steel.

Nickel: Some Ni can improve the strength of the steel without significantly reducing its ductility and strengthen the corrosion resistance to acid and alkali.

Molybdenum: Mo in steel can improve hardenability and thermal strength, prevent temper brittleness, and improve mechanical properties.

Manganese: When the content of Mn is more than 0.7% in steel, it has not only well ductility, but also high strength and hardness. Steel with Mn content over 10% has high wear resistance, used to produce bucket tooth, ball mill lining…

Wolfram: The addition of W can significantly improve the wear resistance and machinability of the steel.

Obviously, alloy steel castings have better mechanical properties than carbon steel castings, but the cost will be little higher. Alloy steel castings are widely used in various industries such as mining industry, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, oil&gas industry and railway&transit industry. Maple can cast specific alloy steel materials according to the requirements of customers.

We can also help customers suggest adding the appropriate elements to achieve the requirements of application. We have a wealth of expertise to help customers in the chemical composition and heat treatment process recommendations. If you need help with material, please contact us.
