Rolled Ring Forging

Rolled ring forging is a widely used process that is used in the manufacturing of certain components. The forging method creates inherently stronger components and superior pieces that are much needed for the mechanical parts. The forging process enlarges the diameter and lowers the thickness of the cross-sectional profile, and creates seamless rings with a diameter that ranges from 50 mm to several meters.

At Maple Machinery, the Rolled ring forging process creates and shapes the material into the required size, with minimum wastage of time and resources. What you get with us is a final product with stronger mechanical properties and the least deformation. We are considered the leaders when it comes to getting the ideal blend of strength, fatigue resistance, and toughness with a seamless rolled ring forging process.

What is Process

1. Upsetting: roughing the raw material on the platform
2. Piercing: the workpiece is punched to obtain the initial ring.
3. Shearing: used to remove flash.
4. Forming: the preform is placed on the mandrel, and the idler roll presses the preform in the direction of the drive roll to form the preform gradually.

Rolled ring applications range

You’ll find them being used in the mining, agricultural, oil and gas industry, power generation and marine.

Seamless rolled rings are used for:
Bearings
Ring Gears
Flangs
Clutches
Couplings
Drives
Gears
Valves

Compared to casting

During rolled ring forging, the material is shaped to the required size, without additional center and edges material, which can reduce the waste of material and reduce the cost. Compared with casting, it has smaller deformation and better mechanical properties. The surface has no cracks and defects, and has integrity.
